Trains are an integral part of life in Japan. I spent a lot of time sitting on train station benches during my commute, and contemplating the kanji of the station signs. I made the connection with sitting in a Catholic Church and contemplating the Fourteen Stations of the Cross. I fused both the Kintetsu Station signs with the Stations of the Cross to create a transitional bridge between my life in Ireland and new life in Japan. The life of Christ, life in Japan and all of our lives in general are nothing but transient states.
